The Davis Home

Our home was built in the ‘80s and when we bought it in 2020, it still looked very ‘80s. We were fortunate in that it was well taken care of for almost 40 years, but it was not our style at all. The ink was barely dry on the papers when we started dreaming up our renovation plans. There were rooms with minor cosmetic changes like new carpet, paint and light fixtures; but other rooms were total gut jobs (namely the kitchen and master bath). We took down some walls, rearranged some rooms, and now… it’s my favorite place in DFW.

Here are some B&A photos of my first project, that I’m lucky enough to call Home.

Living Room and Entryway: Before/During

We removed all of the popcorn ceilings, took out the 1/2 wall between the kitchen and living room, new floors, all new light fixtures, new paint, new baseboards/trim, and new windows. And we had great friends who sat on the floor and ate dinner with us in the chaos.

Kitchen, Breakfast Nook, Dining Room: Before/During

We removed the popcorn ceilings, took out the random doorway between the dining room and back bonus area (where we now have new built-ins), new floors throughout, new light fixtures, added lots of recessed lighting in the kitchen, new kitchen cabinet fronts (saved a lot of $$ by just doing fronts and installing ourselves), painted cabinets and new hardware, new backsplash, all new appliances and countertops (with a waterfall edge detail between kitchen and living room), added wainscoting in the dining room, all new windows.

Master Suite: Before/During

We totally gutted the bathroom and redid the majority of the footprint - moved the shower to where the tub used to be, and added a sitting vanity area for myself, removed a poorly located linen closet and replaced it with built-in laundry hampers and a coffee station, added more cabinets for storage, and updated it all-around! Bedroom remodel consisted of new floors and paint, all new fixtures, and a custom closet.

We left the footprints of these rooms all the same, and just spruced them up! New floor/tile, new paint/wallpaper, new vanities and fixtures, new W/D, a lot of love, and a little blood, sweat and tears!

Upstairs, we continued the removal of popcorn ceilings, replaced the carpet throughout, painted everything and added wallpaper in one bedroom, then made it our own with other various decor. It includes three bedrooms, an office with french doors, and a bonus living space on the landing.
